Description
Platformers usually lean heavily on swords or magic, but Aidan in Danger gives you something a bit different. You play as Aidan, a ginger-haired elf whose only line of defense is a trusty slingshot. Your goal is simple on paper and brutal in execution. You need to protect Drakor, who happens to be the last dragon left on Earth, from an interdimensional villain trying to ruin the world.
The game mixes time travel with classic jumping puzzles and monster combat. You will find yourself hopping across crumbling platforms while taking aim at weird creatures charging at you from off screen. The pixel art style gives it a nice retro aesthetic without feeling too cheap or sloppy. The controls are tight enough that when you miss a jump, you know it was your fault and not the game physics.
Controlling Aidan takes about five seconds to figure out. You use the arrow keys or WASD to move and jump, and you use the mouse to aim and fire your slingshot. Getting used to the slingshot arc is the real challenge. You cannot just spam shots and hope for the best because timing matters, and you need to lead moving targets while airborne.
If you grew up playing classic side-scrollers on older consoles, you will feel right at home here. It is also a great pick for younger players or anyone who wants a quick platforming session right in their browser without downloading a massive file. The difficulty ramps up steadily as you move through the different eras, so expect to test your agility quite a bit before you see the ending credits.
